About Us

The Oakey District is situated just west of Toowoomba on the Darling Downs.  The township of Oakey is surrounded by prime agricultural land, focusing mainly on the growing of cereal and cotton crops. There is also a diverse livestock industry, poultry farms and equine enterprises; the district is supported by abattoirs, feedlots and renowned veterinary hospitals.

The town is home to the ADF (Australian Army Aviation Base); this base is also the training site for Singapore Armed Forces Helicopter Squadron. The Army Flying Museum is located adjoining the ADF base, with the Oakey Historical Museum a few minutes' drive down the road. Both these museums are well worth a visit.

Approximately 4,500 people reside in the Oakey District and are supported by various churches and outreach services.  The residents have access to good shopping and medical facilities, including a local hospital and aged care services.  Oakey provides a choice of early childhood centres as well as two primary schools and one high school.  The Oakey State Primary and High School both benefit from the services of a Chaplain, who is keenly supported by the Oakey Uniting Church.

Within the district, locals have access the following facilities: Oakey Swimming Pool, Oakey Golf Club, Oakey Cultural Centre, Oakey Showgrounds & Racecourse as well as numerous landscaped parks along Oakey Creek.

A twenty-minute drive will take you to all the services of Australia’s largest inland city of Toowoomba. Wellcamp Downs (WTB-Brisbane West), Australia’s newest International Airport is also only a 20 minutes’ drive from Oakey.
